There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

One day I asked the mirror facing me,
Friend, what’s true?…

How about my heart, mirror?…

Silence.

O mirror, I see.

I need a human friend
True enough
To reflect my heart.

    1. Marcy, I’ve done a couple posts where I use that quote from Hamlet to express my frustration with the current state of psychiatry, neurology and related disciplines — particularly in terms of treating the patient with compassion and empathy. I’m sure you could give me a more complete picture from your vantage point but I see it as a real problem.

      1. I like your interpretation of the Hamlet quote – there is so much we don’t know about the mind, our knowledge of the brain and neurology is so incomplete. And our treatment of patients even more woefully so – for that reason and historical ones. I hope you didn’t think my Stephen King quote was a flippant response to your post – The Gunslinger is my favorite King novel by far. To me it is a modern rephrasing of the Hamlet quote – there is so much we don’t understand and we have so little appreciation for that sometimes.
